Handwritten copy of his manuscript concerning his experiences as a pioneer settler in Walsh County, N.D. It begins with leaving the family farm in Iowa County, Wisc., describes his journey through Minnesota and settling in N.D. Topics covered include: blizzards, schools, pioneer hardships especially those endured by the women, sod houses, oxen, assisting settlers in establishing claims, teaching school, locating a church and cemetery, the death of their child, log cabins, drunkenness, unusual characters, and his friendship with Roger Allin, fourth governor of N.D. Includes printed transcription of the entire reminiscences by grandson, Carl Arneson, done in 1993-1994.

Born in Iowa County, Wisc. Taught school in Wisconsin, later moved to the Red River Valley in 1879. Settled in Walsh County, N.D., near Park River. Wed Julia Arneson in 1883. They returned to Mount Horeb, Wisc. in 1889. After retiring from farming in 1915, he served in the Wisconsin Assembly from 1918 to 1926. He died in 1940, she died in 1960.
